Jakarta, kabarsenayan.com. — Secretary-General of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), Muhammad Kholid, stated that the enactment of a law authorizing the death penalty for Palestinian detainees by Israel constitutes not merely a serious violation of human rights, but represents a grave escalation within a sustained pattern of systemic violations that carry genocidal implications.
“This measure cannot be viewed in isolation. It reflects the cumulative impact of a series of repressive policies and practices implemented over time. It marks a critical juncture in an ongoing pattern of systemic injustice,” Kholid said in an official statement on Friday.
He underscored that repeated expressions of concern by the international community, in the absence of credible and coordinated action, risk eroding both their authority and effectiveness. “If international responses remain confined to declaratory statements, they will fail to generate the necessary leverage to halt a deeply entrenched and systematic pattern of oppression,” he noted.
Kholid further observed that the introduction of the death penalty in this context signals a deeply troubling trajectory that threatens the continued existence and fundamental rights of the Palestinian people. He warned that legal frameworks are increasingly being invoked to provide a veneer of legality to acts of state violence.
“When legal instruments are used to justify the discriminatory deprivation of life, we are witnessing the normalization of grave breaches of international law. This goes beyond a conventional human rights violation; it reflects a trajectory that may amount to systemic and potentially genocidal conduct,” he stated.
He also referred to a joint statement issued by several Ministers of Foreign Affairs, including Indonesia, which firmly rejects the policy on the grounds that it is discriminatory, repressive, and inconsistent with fundamental principles of international law, including international humanitarian law and international human rights law.
Nevertheless, Kholid emphasized that the gravity of the situation requires moving beyond rhetorical condemnation toward concrete and measurable steps. He called upon the Government of Indonesia to assume a more proactive and strategic role in advancing coordinated international efforts.
“Indonesia must move beyond expressions of concern. It should take the initiative in strengthening international coalitions, advocating for appropriate and proportionate measures, and advancing credible accountability mechanisms to ensure compliance with international law,” he said.
He added that PKS supports the efforts undertaken by Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in coordination with other partners, while noting that the continued escalation of such policies indicates that existing approaches have yet to generate sufficient deterrence.
“This is no longer merely a matter of position, but a test of the collective resolve of the international community to uphold justice, protect human dignity, and safeguard the rule of law. Failure to act decisively risks allowing grave violations to persist with impunity,” he concluded.
